christmas craftiness

i'm not really sure why, but i have been feeling crafty lately. check out what we've been up to.

ornaments i made to spell out our name. just in case anyone forgets who's house they're in. :)

scott's gingerbread house

and mine

paper snowflakes

a handprint wreath, using scott, mine and brooklin's handprints.

and santa's house that brooklin helped me put together. and when i say help, i really mean i let her play with all of the scraps i didn't need to assemble the thing.

i also made a blanket for brooklin, but forgot to take pictures before i wrapped it and stuck it under the tree, so i'll have to wait to post pictures of it. it was my first time making a blanket and i was so proud of the way it turned out. i really hope she likes it.

i love being able to create, even if it is something as simple as a paper snowflake. my mom always tried to tell me i was creative, and i guess i never really wanted to believe her because i felt like if i really thought that i was, then i would have to put forth a lot of time and effort into doing "crafty" things. but i've begun to figure out that i do like being creative, and i have a hard time doing things "simply." this is a trait i definitely get from my mother. i am nowhere near as great as she is, but maybe someday. ;)

christmas trees for kitties?

this years' christmas tree was in debate for quite some time. i was really nervous about how graycie was going to do with the tree. was she going to try and eat it? is she going to pounce it and totally knock all the ornaments off, and quite possibly pull the thing over? most parents worry about their kids doing these things, not us. brooklin is pretty good at listening and obeying. we had no issues whatsoever with her and the tree last year, so, we really weren't concerned about her. but this cat, she is quite the mischievious little kitty. she's usually really good when we're around, but when we're not she does things she knows she's not supposed to. the big one being getting up on the counter tops. so we himmed and hawed and finally decided to just go ahead and get a tree and hope for the best. i really couldn't see us having christmas without a tree, just because of a little kitty, who may or may not get into it.

we went to the tree farm with our pals the lydiards and the dahlstroms, and we set out to find our perfect tree. as per usual, we found ours first, then the dahlstroms, closely followed by the lydiards. i guess we really aren't that hard to please, and it helps that scott and i have the same idea when it comes to the perfect christmas tree. we like the grand firs becuase they're nice and full and a beautiful rich green color. there is one thing we had a hard time agreeing on this year. scott wanted a smaller one and i like tall ones. plus, i was afraid that a smaller one might be more inviting and less intimidating to our furry little friend. we ended up compromising. we found one that was a little shorter than last years, but still taller than me. :)

i did all the decorating myself, while brookie napped and she was pleasantly suprised when she woke up from her nap to find this.

i'm hoping to include her in the decorating next year, if i can overcome my ocd. j/k and so far, graycie has been an angel. well... she still gets up on the counter tops, but at least our tree is still intact. she really likes to hide under it, and i guess she thinks that the stand is a new humongous water bowl for her. okay, i was probably fretting over nothing. she may even be a little sad when the tree leaves in a couple weeks.

p.s. thanks JoJo for being our delivery guy, you're a stud!

ouch!

well, today we learned a lesson the hard way. playing with the dresser drawers is not such a great idea. brooklin pulled our whole big dresser down on top of her. luckily she fell to the side and this was all she got. it definitely could have been a lot worse. my poor little buggy.
