brooklin's 1st birthday

So after weeks of planning, stressing, and note-writing, the big event has come and gone. my little bug is a whole 1 year old! it's very hard for me to believe but i'm coming to accept it. i just hope her second year doesn't go by so quickly.

for brooklin's birthday we decided to have a little party, but somehow that party didn't end up being very little. go big or go home, right? the main thing i was stressing about was her cake. i really wanted to make it myself, but i've never really decorated a cake before, so i was a little concerned about how it was going to turn out. i have to say that i was very pleased. it turned out just the way i had pictured it, except the writing. that could've been a little better. it's hard to write with that squeeze iceing stuff.

brooklin and i practiced 4 or 5 times blowing out candles so i was wondering if she'd be able to do it, and she did! twice, because daddy and grandma weren't ready with their cameras. what a big girl!

i knew that as soon as we gave her the opportunity, she was going to just dive right into that cake. this girl loves anything. and she didn't disappoint. she definitely put on a show.

since brooklin loves the water so much we decided to go swimming. and we absolutely made the right choice. she had a total blast! i don't think any of the other babies quite enjoyed themselves like she did. she is a total water baby. she was splashing, kicking her legs and yelling/laughing the whole time.

i had a lot of fun swimming with my little buggy. i hope everyone had a good time, because i know we sure did. we're glad that we had family and friends there to help us celebrate such a big birthday! though, i think we're going to tone it down a little for next year. i don't think i can do this for every birthday, nor do i think i want to. but the first is always a big deal, especially for the parents. yay, we actually made it through the first year! :) i am so thankful to have such an amazing daughter who has taught me more than i could imagine this past year. she has blessed our lives so much and i look forward to what the future has in store for her. i also want to thank all those who have helped scott and i out this past year. we really appreciate our family and friends, and couldn't ask for better people surrounding us. we love you all!

Thanks for the fun party! Brooklin was definitely the star for the night. She was so cute, especially in the water! And I'm still impressed with that cake! Good idea to practice blowing out candles before hand.
