dash

when i was pregnant with lauren i really wanted to get another kitty.  i know silly, right?  here i was about to have a baby and i thought it was a good idea to get a little needy kitten.  scott talked some sense into me by reminding me how graycie was when she was a kitten.  she would meow all night long keeping scott and i awake.  she'd jump on our bed and attack our toes and faces in the middle of the night, keeping scott and i awake.  so, i realized that i really didn't need a baby and a kitten keeping me awake at night.

i always knew from the moment we adopted graycie that i was gonna want another.  i could totally see myself being an old cat lady someday.  gross, huh?  sure, graycie was a pretty needy kitten but she was also really fun.  and she has grown to be quite a loyal kitty, and from what i've heard/seen a good guard cat.  she really likes to be around people and see what's going on, but do not try and touch her.  she'll come to you when she's ready.  scott and i are the exception to that rule though.  i pick her up and try to love on her all the time, though i can tell from her face she's a little annoyed.

well, the time finally came when scott and i  decided it would be a okay to adopt another.  but there was still one little concern.  how would graycie react to having another cat on her turf?  we figured we wouldn't know until we tried, right?  so, the girls and i went to both of the shelters to look.  we found a litter of kittens that seemed really playful, and there was one that stole my heart.  she was a cute little tortoiseshell with the most beautiful coloring.  when scott came home from work we told him all about her.  oh i fell instantly for her.  the next day scott stopped at the shelter while he was out running errands for work.  when he got home he had to break the news to me that she was gone.  gone!  the whole litter had been transferred to seattle.  so sad.  i guess he talked to some of the volunteers that worked there and they said that the litter was kind of a wild group and they probably wouldn't have been a good match for us anyway.  they also recommended that we get a male too.  apparently two females is a bad idea.  they let scott know that there was a litter in a foster home that was going to be ready in a few weeks.  their mom looked siamese,  and there were two gray, two black, and one that looked like the momma.  scott was really hoping the one that looked siamese was a male.  last tuesday we decided to go and see if they were at the shelter, and lucky us it was their first day there so we had first pick.  turns out the siamese was female.  scott was a little bummed.  if we were to get a male we had a choice between black or gray.  so we hung out with both to see which one we liked best.  it was a tough choice, but we decided to go with the black one.  wolfie was the name they had given him.  he purred like crazy.  he was very friendly and playful.  it was really scott that made the choice, i couldn't choose because they were both so sweet.

dash is the name we chose.  we didn't know at the time how fitting it was.  at first glance he's just a black cat.  but if you really look at him you can tell that he came from a siamese.  his face, ears, feet and tail are a shiny black but the rest of his hair looks like it's got some brown.  and scott swears he can see stripes, but i don't see it.  so it looks like he's made up of a dash of this and a dash of that.  haha!  plus he's super fast!

dash is the perfect kitten.  he's playful but not crazy like a lot of kittens.  dash also sleeps at night.  we put him in our bathroom and he's quiet all night.  amazing!  he hasn't been too naughty, yet.  and the best part is that it took less than a week for graycie to become best friends with him.  it's so fun to watch them play together.  graycie is a great big sister to him.  she lets him share her water and food, even though he has his own.  and when i bring out the cat toys graycie just loves to watch him play, and sometimes she'll jump in there too.

okay, i have gone on way too long now, but i wanted to make sure i introduced dash on the blog.

Oh my gosh, he is so cute! I think you and I have no pet syndrom... like we never had pets growing up so now we want as many as we can have. LOL... even though I can't have a kitty in our apartment, I look at the Pocatello HUmane society everyday to look at what they have. I want one so badly! And your new Dash is freaking cute I can't stand it!
